The Stuart Heritage Museum is a great place to go to learn about local South Florida history. The museum gives you a real sense of what things were like in the area’s past from living to working and everything in-between.

The museum was created in 1988 when the City of Stuart purchased the Stuart Feed Store building on Flagler Avenue in downtown Stuart, Florida. The purpose of Stuart Heritage is to help preserve the heritage, artifacts and history of Stuart and its surrounding communities. The countless relics housed by the museum define the history of the people, businesses, agriculture and community spirit of the City of Stuart and Martin County.

The museum building is itself a historical landmark. It is wooden, made of Dade County pine, which is some of the longest-lasting variety of wood to be found. It is a 1901 tin-roof structure of vernacular architecture with a classical pioneer false-front and a gabled tin roof which was constructed and named the George W. Parks General Merchandise Store of Stuart, Florida.
