North Palm Beach and Hobe Sound are wonderful places to live especially if you enjoy the outdoors. Everyone knows about the miles and miles of beaches and swaying palm trees; however, people are oblivious that this tropical paradise also has wonderful state parks. Here are two of our favorite local state parks.

John D. MacArthur Beach State Park

John D. MacArthur Beach State Park in North Palm Beach has twists and turns of mangrove swamps, trails that meander through canopies of trees, and an immense boardwalk that traverses the lagoon. Walkthrough the park and you will discover two miles of natural coastline on the Atlantic Ocean.

Nestled on a barrier island, this is the only Florida state park in Palm Beach County. It also offers swimming, fishing, educational programs, unique events, kayak rentals, and exceptional snorkeling, as well as a nature center, gift shop, playground, and picnicking facilities.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park

Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound extends for miles of coastal sandhills, plateau lakes, and natural brush, as well as the Loxahatchee River, making this park a unique spot to explore by foot or water. Historical interests include a secret WWII training camp, the story of the shipwrecked Quaker merchant who is the park’s namesake, and Trapper Nelson, the legendary Wild Man of the Loxahatchee.

These little slices of heaven are hard to come by with all the development in our charming towns in Southeast Florida. If you live in the area there is a lot to see. Do not just settle for the beaches! Go and check out some of the great state parks.
