Popular Family Suburbs in Adelaide – the north holds appeal for families
Using CoreLogic research commissioned by Aussie, we can reveal that Adelaide’s northern suburbs take the prize for being the city’s family favourites. Nine of the city’s top 20 suburbs most popular with families are located in this region though the south doesn’t do too badly either, with suburbs around Mitcham and Onkaparinga claiming a strong stake in the top 20.
Hewett, just north of Gawler, has Adelaide’s highest proportion of family households, where 65.1% of residents have children. Along with efficient access to arterial roads and railway, families are taking advantage of strong affordability, with houses in Hewett typically valued at $460,241.
If your budget doesn’t extend that far, take heart that there are plenty of other family-oriented suburbs in Adelaide’s top 20 with far lower price tags. The most affordable is Andrews Farm, where 59.5% of households are families with kids, and the median house value is just $272,500.
If you prefer to raise your family closer to the city, take a look at Colonel Light Gardens, Mansfield Park, Athol Park and Wattle Park – all are located less than 10km from the CBD, and they each have at least one in two households with children.
Popular Family Suburbs in Regional South Australia – A good vintage for families
Outside of Adelaide, the gorgeous Barossa region is, not surprisingly, a popular spot for families. Chief among the family-friendly locations is Freeling, where over half the local households have children. Not far behind is Williamstown, though the beauty of both locations is affordable home values. Families can pick up a house for $356,234 in Williamstown, or about $307,683 in Freeling.
To the south of Adelaide, Mount Compass is popular with families – almost one in two households have kids, and with houses priced at around $391,248 it’s likely to appeal to parents on a budget.
