The majority of mortgage brokers expect their role to get more demanding and more complex over the next year, according to research by Virgin Money.

The lender found that, perhaps unsurprisingly, 94 per cent of advisers said that the pandemic is having an impact on their business, with 54 per cent saying that this impact is significant.

Looking towards the year ahead, 90 per cent of brokers predict more change to come.

The research found that of those expecting further change, 79 per cent of advisers think their role will become more demanding and 77 per cent believe it will become more complex.

Virgin Money head of mortgage distribution and general insurance Sarah Green says: “The research clearly shows that brokers have found it challenging to keep up to date with fast changing market conditions and customer needs.

“As well as navigating uncertainty amongst clients and changes to products, they are also contending with what the future of the mortgage market will look like when furlough and the stamp duty holiday ends.”
