The Ultimate Holiday Movie Marathon List

With Thanksgiving behind us, it’s full steam ahead into the holiday season. What better way to get you in the spirit than spending a full evening watching movies? Grab a blanket, some popcorn and eggnog, put on your PJs, and be entertained with some of these awesome holiday movies.

Old Classics

“White Christmas” As one of the few musicals on the list, this decades-old classic is still worthy of being on every Best Holiday Movies list. It’s chock full of entertainment from stars like Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, and Danny Kaye. It’s a vibrant tale of romance and fun set after World War II.

“Miracle on 34th Street” This oldie-but-goody film offers comedic and dramatic moments telling a story about an old man who claims to be Santa Claus. A young attorney decides to argue for him in court to help him prove his case. There’s a remake from 1994 that’s charming, too.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” This classic may be one of the most iconic holiday movies ever made. The main character, George Bailey, feels unimportant and is thinking about offing himself until his guardian angel shows him what life would be like in his town if he’d never been born.

“Meet Me in St. Louis” This romantic musical comedy centers around four sisters who are waiting for the 1904 World’s Fair that will be taking place in their town.

Flicks with Sequels

“The Santa Clause” This comedy, starring Tim Allen, is about a man who’s recruited to take Santa’s place. It’s good for some hearty laughs and, if you enjoy it, you might want to also watch the two sequels.

“Home Alone” Even if you’ve seen this Christmas classic 10 times before, it should still be at the top of your watch list. Macaulay Culkin is the ultimate brat who’s left home alone when his family mistakenly goes on holiday without him. Hilarity ensues when he tries to thwart two criminals from breaking in. This franchise has a whopping five sequels.

“Frosty the Snowman” How could you go wrong watching an animated tale about a group of friends, a magic hat, and a rabbit sidekick? Watch all three fun parts of this series.

More Good Ones

“A Gift to Remember” Dog lovers and romantics alike will enjoy this cute Hallmark movie. It’s about a woman who works in a bookstore who accidentally hits a handsome man while riding her bike. He’s left without a memory, and she keeps his dog while waiting for him to recover.

“Love Actually” Strong, relatable characters brought to life by the great cast make sure this holiday movie has something for everyone, whether you like drama or comedy. Several intertwining stories all lead back to engaging tales where love is the overarching theme.

“Elf” Will Ferrell stars as the main character who, as a baby, ended up at the North Pole. He’s raised along with the elves. When he’s grown up, he decides to find his father in New York. It’s a funny, heartwarming movie the entire family will enjoy.

“Four Christmases” An adorable couple (played by Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon) make the rounds to four family gatherings with each of their divorced parents after their vacation plans tank. This movie is funny and touching, with a top-notch cast.

“A Christmas Carol” Jim Carey brings Ebenezer Scrooge – and several other characters – to life in this adaptation of the well-known story. This movie offers great visuals and a fresh perspective that’s different from the other ones on this list.

“Scrooged” If you can’t get enough of the “A Christmas Carol” story, watch this one, too. This big-budget movie stars the hilarious Bill Murray as self-absorbed television executive Frank Cross. An instant classic when it was first released in the 1980s, this movie should be on everyone’s list.

“The Polar Express” Based on a popular children’s book, this animated film follows a young boy who takes a train to the North Pole and learns lessons about joy and faith.

“A Christmas Story” This movie is narrated by the main character, as an adult, and tells the story of a Christmas when he was 9. It’s set in the 1940s, the year when all he wanted under the tree was a Red Ryder BB gun.

“Christmas Wonderland” The main character, Heidi, returns to the town where she grew up right before Christmas. She must choose between returning to her life in the big city or staying in her hometown and pursuing her passion of painting.

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” Any holiday movie list is incomplete without this green, heartless shrew plotting mayhem for the town of Whoville.

“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” A hilarious delight from beginning to end. Chevy Chase is the family patriarch just trying to make sure they have the perfect Christmas.
