A Day In The Life Of... Emma Harvey, MoneySuperMarket - Mortgage Strategy

My alarm goes off…

…at 6am. I have a one-year-old and she likes to be out of bed by around 6.30am, so I try to get a jump in the morning by waking up early.

I help my son get ready for school and then drop them both off before heading to the Tube for 8am.

I cannot leave the house without…

…my backpack. It has all the essentials for the day (my phone, laptop and lipstick).

I travel to work…

…by Tube. The Northern Line takes me straight to our lovely offices in Tottenham Court Road, which makes life easy. Breakfast is laid on in the office so I can pick up a coffee and something to eat and be at my desk around 8.40am.

The main purpose of my job…

…is to manage our mortgage offering from end to end. I work with our customers and mortgage partners (lenders and brokers) as well as our technical, marketing and finance teams.

I joined MoneySuperMarket…

…three years ago to help increase the conversion on our travel portfolio. I moved to our strategic mortgage team a year later for a bit more of a challenge.

We’re currently building journeys to support people in making their biggest financial decisions. This includes providing tools to help them get started, researching the mortgage market and then taking that step to get the mortgage they want – all by working directly with lenders and brokers.

My typical day…

…starts with planning. We look at both on-site and financial measures to see what’s working well and what could be improved. I’ll spend time planning the next evolution of our experience, working through how to make it happen with our fintech partners and reviewing performance of our latest tests.

We have big plans to transform mortgages, so we always look at what we need to deliver in the week, month and quarter, making sure everyone is pushing towards our goals.

People may not know that I am responsible for…

…managing the joint venture with our fintech, Podium. Working with industry experts who have technology nous really helps drive change at pace.

A common misconception about my job is…

…that mortgages are boring. Every day we find ways to help people save on their biggest expense.

My favourite work memory is…

…getting feedback from one of our customers that they’ve saved £400 a month and that it has changed their family’s financial outlook. It reminds me why we exist as an organisation and why so many customers start their journey with us. It’s really rewarding.

A perk of the job is…

…flexible working. I try to work from home at least one day a week and it was a godsend when I broke my leg in December. I’ve also loved becoming more financially savvy through working with our teams in MoneySuperMarket and Money Saving Expert, which means I’m more confident in helping customers.

To unwind after work I like to…

…have a glass of Baileys and watch a box set once the kids are in bed.

My role in five words is…

…busy, rewarding, fintech, customer experience.
