The pumpkins have been put away and bright lights, Christmas trees, and decorations have replaced them. Here in Southeast Florida, our pleasant weather continues to roll on in! Instead of hayrides and cornfields, why not fire up the boat head out on the water for a weekend at one of our local area sandbars.
Here are three favorites to consider:
The Jupiter/Tequesta Sandbar:
The Jupiter/Tequesta sandbar is located along the Loxahatchee River, a little north of the Jupiter Inlet and Intracoastal. On any given weekday or weekend throughout the year, the popular sandbar is certainly the place to be and hang out for the day. The sandbar boasts views of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and the eastern end of the sandbar is a great spot for snorkeling, especially during the summer months.
Stuart/Hutchinson Island:
The Stuart sandbar is located just inside the St. Lucie Inlet, and just east of the convergence of the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon. The closest boat ramp is Sandsprit Park. You can rent boats at the Sundance Marina in Jensen Beach. There is also excellent fishing and snorkeling in the area, which is known as the “sailfish flats.”
The Peanut Island Sandbar:
Peanut Island is located near the Palm Beach Inlet in the middle of the Lake Worth Lagoon. The island was formed from piles of sand from dredging projects and today the island in the middle of the water is a popular spot for boaters and those who love the water. The northern part of the island is great for boaters to dock and for those who want to snorkel with views of marinas and Palm Beach. Peanut Island is large enough to have a picnic area, restrooms, an observation deck, campgrounds, pathways, and beach frontage.
