In: Comfort is king

Well this is great news! The teeny-tiny, uncomfortable furniture of the past couple of years is sitting 2018 out. The move away from stark spaces is a welcome shift for those of us who don’t mind a bit of oversized comfort and like a home that shares a bit about the residents. This has been the ‘it’ indoor plant spotted all through interior magazines and renovation shows in 2017. The indoor plant trend definitely has roots, but there’s a new hero plant on the scene. The Monstera deliciosa still has that lush green look of a Fiddle-leaf fig, but with more of a sculptural shape. In: Integrated technology

We’ve seen a period of rapid growth in the tech space, and the functionality of integrated home technologies is astounding. If you’re not ready to step into the future, there are a number of more entry-level additions that will streamline your life without replacing everything in your home with a whizz-bang alternative.

Out: Metallic

Let’s not rule out the metallic look completely – who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle? But rather than the glitzy sheen of metallic, such as the super-saturated copper tone that has popped up on pendant lights, baskets, vessels and clocks in 2017, the trend will see a more muted approach to shine. A less-lustrous brass tone is where the metallic trend is heading this year.
