This Thursday, May 5th is Cinco de Mayo and many local restaurants here in Palm Beach County are gearing up to host special dining deals and drink specials to honor the day.

Many people confuse Cinco de Mayo as Mexico’s Independence Day, but Cinco de Mayo is the day that Mexico defeated France in the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862. The Mexican Army was led under General Ignacio Zaragoza in the victory over the French. Independence Day in Mexico is September 16th. On September 16th, 1810, Father Hidalgo, a priest and leader, called for Mexico’s independence from Spain, bringing the Spanish colonial rule to an end.

Cinco de Mayo, or simply May 5th is celebrated with tons of great music, food, folkloric dancing, battle reenactments, parades, and is honored and observed by many around the world. Several restaurants in northern Palm Beach County are celebrating the day with special dining deals, live music, drink specials, and much more.
