Many people will fly in the direction of the nearest beach for spring break. Thusly, making Southeast Florida a popular destination for many people nationwide. College students will flock to our beaches for rest and relaxation. It is estimated that spring breakers spend in excess of $1.5 billion dollars.

However, beaches and their inhabitants suffer the consequences of this influx of visitors during springtime. On the behalf of the Palm Beach County beaches, please collect your trash when you depart the beach and leave only footprints behind.

Every spring, the headlines are laden by the amount of trash that has been left behind by spring break tourists. The trash that invades the beaches typically involves Styrofoam, plastic, and alcohol cans and bottles. The debris ends up in our oceans, in the stomachs of our sea creatures, and potentially in our stomachs. Because most of these materials are not biodegradable, sea creatures may consume them. It can kill the marine life or be ingested by them, eventually being caught for food, and end up in our systems through the simple food cycle.
