While mortgage rates have held around 7%, keeping many would-be homebuyers on the sidelines, many who decide to make a move are migrating to these ZIP codes, according to a study from Realtor.com.

To determine these popular ZIP codes, Realtor.com determined market demand, as measured by unique viewers per property on its website, as well as the pace of the market as measured by the number of days a listing remains active on its website.

For the second consecutive year, Gahanna, Ohio, 43230, is the hottest ZIP code. This area had a median listing price of $345,000 between January and June 2024, and homes here spend a median of 11 days on the market. Gahanna offers a high quality of life, with shopping and amenities, and is close to Ohio State University, which could offer employment opportunities, education and a college culture. 

Other top ZIP codes include Ballwin, Missouri 63021, and Salem, Massachusetts 01970. Ballwin had a median listing price of $409,000 between January and June 2024 and homes in the area spend a median of 16 days on the market. Salem had a median listing price of $596,000 between January and June 2024 and homes here spend a median of 16 days on the market.

Of the top 20 hottest ZIP codes, seven are located in the northeast region of the United States and three are located in the midwest.
