In our increasingly digital world, the simple act of stepping outside and connecting with our community can have profound benefits. We have so many ways to get out of our homes and into our neighborhoods to make a positive contribution to our Dane County community. Here are two meaningful paths to consider:
Embrace our natural treasures
Join a “friends group” for the Ice Age Trail, The UW Arboretum, Groundswell Conservancy, a Dane County Park, or a Madison Park. These organizations welcome volunteers of all skill levels who want to help preserve our local green spaces. You'll enjoy the beauty of the outdoors while learning about the natural world in community with others. Whether it's helping with trail maintenance, removing invasive species, or assisting with educational programs, your contribution makes a difference.
Support food security for families
Get involved with an organization that helps neighbors who regularly don't have enough to eat. Dane County offers numerous options for meaningful service: Luke House, Sunshine Place, Good Shepard Lutheran Church Food Pantry, Lussier Community Education Center, Badger Prairie Needs Network, and The River Food Pantry all offer regular volunteer opportunities.
The unexpected rewards
Rolling up our sleeves and giving our time can be a wonderful way to improve our own lives. Through volunteering, we can gain new perspectives, meet new friends, and experience more day-to-day connection with our neighbors—all while contributing to a greater purpose.
Share your story
We would love to hear what you're up to in your community, so please let us know how you're getting out and getting involved. Who knows, we might even be able to help spread the word about a local service organization that's near and dear to your heart. Thank you for your time and service and for making our community a better place!
