Popular Family Suburbs in Brisbane – where children have room to play

CoreLogic research commissioned by Aussie reveals Brisbane’s south eastern suburb of MacKenzie tops the league table of popular suburbs for families with kids. Just over 70% of locals share their home with youngsters, and there’s plenty to attract families to the area. Located just 12.5 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD, typical block sizes in Mackenzie are a generous 1,100 square metres giving the small fry plenty of room to play. With a typical house price of $793,000 parents have lots to smile about too. Across the remainder of the city, no single region dominates for families though popular areas for Brisbanites with a brood include Brisbane South, Ipswich, Moreton Bay South and Brisbane West.

Brisbane families like to give their children space to play, with a number of acreage suburbs like Gumdale and Pullenvale also having a high proportion of family households.

Just one of Brisbane’s top 20 family suburbs – Fig Tree Pocket, lies within 10km of the GPO. Here 64.3% of households have children, and the typical house is worth a little over $1 million.

For buyers on a budget, Brisbane’s most affordable Top 20 suburb for families is inner city Tingalpa where the typical house has a value of $547,500. Almost one in two (45.9%) of all households have kids, so your youngsters won’t find it hard calling up a gathering of friends for a game of backyard cricket.

Popular Family Suburbs in Regional QLD – life’s a beach for families

Outside of Brisbane, families are embracing oceanside living on the Gold Coast. In a number of suburbs including Maudsland, Pacific Pines, Gilston and Upper Coomera more than 60% of locals are families with kids – and houses are typically priced under $600,000.

Further afield, families are flocking to Queensland’s other coastal regions like Townsville and the Wide Bay area. In Hervey Bay, for instance, one in two Wondunna households are families, enjoying value-packed house prices of around $500,000.

Further north in Townsville, Alice River and Mount Low are the most popular suburbs for families. And with average house prices of $468,831 and $353,323 respectively, families can enjoy plenty of bang for their home-buying buck.

If far north Queensland is your preferred destination, the Cairns suburb of Redlynch is a very family-friendly, with six out of ten households including children. It offers great value for mums and dads too, with houses priced at $472,337.
