Wishing For Warm Sands, Cerveza, and Tacos

Feeling the lockdown blues? Getting that wanderlust itch? Us too. Recently my co-worker and I have discussed and fantasized about spending a long weekend in Mexico eating tacos and drinking cerveza on a warm and sunny beach. Obviously that trip wont be happening, at least for us, for some time. After that conversation, we got a craving for authentic street tacos. For months now we’ve been reading rave reviews about the Sopa food truck located at River’s Place Tap house--so naturally we had to see if this place would satisfy our craving.

This family owned food truck offers innovative, modern Mexican cuisine with a few classics. The classics are what we came for but the innovation is what blew us away!

You know you’re in the right spot when the person after you is ordering in Spanish.

Lets start with the beef Quesatacos; I know what you’re thinking- oh a meat ‘n cheese taco, what could be so special about that? Well this was a flavor lover’s paradise. Perfectly tender, flavorful, savory meat melted between two shells with cheese and the side sauce was Bomb.com. This, in my opinion, is a great example of innovation and modern Mexican cuisine. Definitely recommend.

Secondly we went with the special - a street taco with carnitas and homemade salsa. This was exactly what we were craving. This dish was served with four homemade corn tortillas, expertly crafted carnitas, fresh pico, and a wonderful green salsa that added a great punch of flavor. This was the perfect taste of Mexico we were hoping for - all we needed were the cervezas!

We’re going out on limb here and saying this might be the best Mexican cuisine in town but we’ll let you be the judge! Sopa is typically open Monday through Saturday 11:00am – 8:00pm and closed on Sundays. In these chaotic times we recommend calling, or checking out their social media sites for any unexpected closures.. Salud!
