The in-person event will include a keynote speech by BBC News’ energy and environment analyst Roger Harrabin, who will consider the UK’s policy response to climate change.

The Met Office’s head of climate services and professor Jason Lowe OBE will also take to the stage to offer his view of what the climate could look like in the future and how climate change will affect communities, infrastructure and our daily lives.

Meanwhile, UK Finance mortgage policy principal Matthew Jupp will discuss how regulatory compliance is shaping its members’ response and consider what lenders want property lawyers to do about climate risk. Rics international head of valuations Ben Elder will also provide a property valuer’s perspective.

Also speaking at the summit is environmental law barrister Stephen Tromans QC, who will clarify solicitors’ professional liability risks and their responsibilities to alert clients of the geoenvironmental impacts of climate change.  

In addition, the Law Society’s Environmental Law and Planning Committee Seb Charles will provide an outline of what the society’s response may be in terms of future guidance to conveyancers, while environmental consultant Stephen Sykes will explain the salient data, risks and liabilities.

Last month, Barclays expanded its partnership with Groundsure to start screening commercial transactions in the UK for environmental and climate change risks.

Santander also teamed up with Groundsure to help assess climate risk in its commercial lending.
