Buckinghamshire Building Society appoints Wass as CEO

He will take up his post at the mutual in mid-September 2022 replacing retiring head Gerard O’Keeffe.

Wass joins from Nationwide where he worked for four years, leaving as director of member propositions, banking, insurance & investments in April.

Prior to that, he worked in a variety of roles for Barclays over 15 years, leaving as managing director, transactional business in April 2016.

O’Keeffe had led the building society for just under four years, before that he spent just under seven years at Allied Irish Bank (GB) leaving as its head in August 2016.

Buckinghamshire Building Society chairman Dick Jenkins says: “This is a high-profile appointment that reflects confidence and excitement about the future of our society.

“Dan’s credentials speak for themselves, but we are delighted that Dan will be an inspirational leader for the great team we have and an excellent cultural fit for the society.”

Wass adds: “I can see that the society has strength, real momentum and a proud heritage of serving its members and the wider Buckinghamshire community.”

The mutual reported a pre-tax profit before tax which doubled to £1.8m in 2021 compared to the year before, with gross new mortgage lending jumping 67% to £65m, while its mortgage book lifted 12% to £244.8m.
