Grab your kids this weekend and head to the Flamingo Gardens!

The Flamingo Gardens is located on 3750 South Flamingo Road, in Davie. Trust us, it's worth the drive. Originally the property of Floyd and Jane Wray, who built a home and citrus grove here in 1933. At the time, it was at the edge of the Everglades.  They started a collection of tropical and subtropical fruit trees and shrubs. The Wray home still stands today and now is a museum illustrating a country home in the early 1930s.

Flamingo Gardens has been in existence for over 90 years. It is a 60-acre, not-for-profit botanical garden and wildlife sanctuary like no other you have ever encountered. The collection features exotic, native and very rare plants.

The current exhibit, Borowski Exhibit are so colorful that they fit right in in the gardens. The exhibit of whimsical glass and metal animal sculptures is well worth a visit. They are located throughout the gardens, many accompanied by fables and fairy tales related to the animals depicted.  Stunning color on the flowering trees as well. The Wray Botanical Collection features 17 of the largest trees of their species in the state making them Florida Champion Trees. Specialized gardens include the butterfly, hummingbird, bromeliad and croton gardens. The centerpiece of the sanctuary is a natural hammock of 200-year-old Oak trees dripping with air plants such as orchids, mosses, staghorn ferns, etc.

It is also an Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary for injured and endangered animals. Flamingo Gardens has been an integral part of the South Florida community. This sanctuary is home to the largest collection of Florida native wildlife.  Including panthers, bobcats, alligators, peacocks and flamingos, of course. Over 90 species call this place home, most of which are permanently injured and/or non-releasable.

Various birds may be observed in the Bird of Prey Center. It features owls, hawks, falcons, osprey, and others. Over 45 varieties are in one of largest wading bird collection. The Free-Flight Aviary contains over 250 wading birds. Check out the birds as they fly free in the magnificent aviary.

Watch the Wildlife Encounter Show, plus a narrated 25-minute tram tour that runs every 30 minutes throughout the day. Need a snack?  Purchase sandwiches, salads, smoothies and other snacks and beverages at the Flamingo Café.
