With the help of hundreds of individual donors, local foundations and a legendary golfer, Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches used a Palm Beach golf event to successfully raise more than $300,000 to provide nutritious meals to homebound seniors during the coronavirus pandemic.

Golfer Tiger Woods is among those who have aided the West Palm Beach-based organization in providing more than 27,000 meals during the past nine weeks to seniors from Jupiter to Lantana.

Woods, a Jupiter Island resident, designated $83,333 to Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches as part of his role in The Match: Champions for Charity event held May 24 at The Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, the organization said.

The event, which also featured PGA Tour golf champion Phil Mickelson, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, raised $20 million for COVID-19 relief efforts.

The organization normally serves about 250 seniors five days a week, offering freshly made noontime meals that are delivered by volunteers.

But in an effort to ensure safety for everyone providing or receiving services, the organization now is providing seven days’ worth of frozen meals - including three breakfast meals - once a week.
