Recently there seems to be a national holiday each and every day. December 30 is National Bacon Day. If you love bacon, today may just make you squeal with delight. Located in the quaint, seaside town of Jupiter is a local’s favorite for breakfast and “million-dollar bacon.”  First Watch Restuarant, 6240 Indiantown Road West, in Jupiter has bacon on the menu. It is not just any type of bacon, but it is pro ported to be “million-dollar bacon”! If you cannot resist the temptation to try “million-dollar bacon,” it is rumored to be wonderful, notable bacon, and definitively worth a try.

In the 1920s, Americans ate very light breakfasts, so public relations pioneer Edward Bernays persuaded doctors to promote bacon and eggs as a healthy breakfast in order to promote sales of bacon on behalf of Beech-Nut. Beech-Nut is a packaging company that had diversified into food production.

The word “bacon” can be traced back to various languages from before the 12th century. Most notably from the French word “bako,” the Germanic “bakkon” and the Old Teutonic word “backe,” all of which specifically refer to the rear of the pig. During the 16th Century, the word “bacoun” was used to refer to any kind of pork. And it was not until the 17th Century that “bacon” was used solely to refer to the salted and smoked pork belly that we know today.
