Former Ports O’Call Site Transforming

Plans are underway to turn San Pedro’s longtime waterfront village into the 42-acre West Harbor, with 35,000 square feet of oceanside dining space, a 6,200-seat amphitheater, and a dockside area for incoming cruises. Some tenants have already been announced.

Expanded Huntington Chinese Garden open at last

It was over two decades in the making. Now the outdoor spaces of the Huntington’s 11.5-acre expansion are unveiled. Highlights include a Stargazing Tower, an area for the age-old art of miniature landscapes, and a performance courtyard paved in pebble mosaics.

Nights of the Jack

Thousands of hand-carved and illuminated jack o’lanterns turn a mile of King Gillette Ranch trail into a Halloween wonderland you can cruise by car. At five mph, it’s an out-the-window Instagrammer’s dream. (Even the location, Calabasas, means pumpkin.)

Grand opening: Glendora Public Market

Set in the city’s storied 1940s Wonder Bread building, this dramatic space preserves original features like exposed brick walls, 20-foot barrel vaulted ceilings and wooden trusses in a dynamic multi-vendor gathering spot that’s still unfolding.

More Wow in Wine Country

Glamping, gourmet eats, and Glen Ellen wine tasting. Despite the pandemic and wildfires, NorCal Wine Country keeps on keeping on with the addition of several appealing attractions to lure in lifestyle travelers. Check out these 12 new things to do in Napa and Sonoma this fall.

Oh my Gourd!

It’s that spooky, decorative gourd time of year and these 11 pumpkin patches located around the Bay Area are open, ready, and willing to satisfy your autumnal holiday needs—socially distanced, of course. And it’s not just pumpkins: Kids and adults can also milk cows (Petaluma’s Peter Pumpkin Patch); navigate corn mazes (Portola Valley’s Webb Ranch); and enjoy tractor-pulled hay rides (San Francisco’s Clancy’s Pumpkin Patch).

Burgers around the Bay

Let’s face it: Sometimes you just want a good burger. From high-end specimens at Charter Oak and Liholiho Yacht Club to classic greasy spoon experiences at Beep’s and Red’s Java House, you’re sure to find exactly what you’re craving with this roundup of top meat muffins served across the Bay Area.

Water ways

The Bay Area’s Indian Summer is the perfect time to get out on the water. Fortunately, nearly all of the region’s 350 parks and recreation destinations are officially back open after being shuttered since March. That includes boat-friendly destinations to cool off, including Del Valle Reservoir, Quarry Lakes, Lake Chabot, Los Vaqueros, and San Pablo reservoir.
