Nottingham Building Society has opened a new flagship city centre branch today.
The new Clumber Street branch is on Nottingham’s busiest high street and the first opening by the mutual in eight years.
It replaces the Upper Parliament Street location, which ran for 50 years.
The lender says its new branch has been designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind, to meet the needs of customers with different needs.
It incorporates both digital services for customers who are comfortable with technology and face-to-face options, including consultation zones for those who need human support.
Nottingham-based illustrator Emmy Lupin was commissioned to create a mural inside the branch celebrating the local community.
The lender has also launched a limited-time savings product with some proceeds supporting its homelessness charity Emmanuel House.
Chief executive Sue Hayes says: “While many institutions are scaling back physical presence, we remain committed to a modernised, member-focused branch network.
“This opening brings our new brand identity to life in a tangible way – built around the people who use it and the communities we serve.
“The Clumber Street branch is the first to feature the Society’s fully rebranded identity in a physical space, with further branch upgrades scheduled in the coming months as part of a network-wide refresh.”
Building Societies Association chief executive Robin Fieth says: “At a time when banks are reducing their branch networks and leaving high streets, Nottingham Building Society’s investment into its branch network serves as a timely reminder of the vital role building societies play in local communities.
“250 years since building societies were first established, they remain true to their roots by continuing to enable homeownership, build financial resilience and support communities.”
