The appointment comes after housing minister Lucy Frazer was moved on as part of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s cabinet shuffle.

Frazer served in the role for three months, having replaced Lee Rowley, who worked as housing minister for 48 days, who himself replaced Marcus Jones, who filled the role for 63 days.

The latest move means that Maclean, who represents Redditch, has become the fifteenth housing minister in 12 years and the sixth within the past year.

Maclean takes on the new role having previously served as minister of state at Ministry of Justice between 7 September of 28 October 2022.

Prior to that, she was parliamentary under secretary of state at the Home Office between September 2021 and July last year. She was also parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department for Transport between February 2020 and September 2021.

Commenting on her new position, Maclean says: “Delighted to be appointed as Minister in [the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities department]. Looking forward to a new challenge, tackling one of the defining issues the government faces. I start now!”
