Smee has a wealth of experience in financial services and has previously served as Council of Mortgage Lenders  director general from 2011 until 2017, when it was absorbed into UK Finance.

He previously ran the UK Payments Council and the Association of Independent Financial Advisors (AIFA).

Smee has served as a non-executive director of various bodies since 2018, including the Regulator of Social Housing, the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission, Money Advice Trust and the Residential Landlords Association.

Commenting on his appointment Smee said: “The FLA Code demonstrates the seriousness with which FLA members treat good customer service and outcomes. I am delighted to be associated with it and to assist in the next phase of its development.”
