In the role, she will support the company’s ambition to consolidate its strong position in core markets while also providing a framework where it can more easily build out into new markets.

Johnston joins from Aviva where she held a number of transformation leadership roles across both savings and retirement and general insurance.

She has a track record of delivering large-scale digital and operational transformation projects which deliver “tangible value”.

She also has a wealth of experience in delivering a better digital experience for customers.

When Mortgage Finance Gazette sister title Money Marketing spoke to Canada Life chief executive Lindsey Rix in May, she laid out plans to transform the company into a “different type of business”.

“Historically, we’ve been very successful in our chosen markets, but I can see a clear opportunity to grow our business through building deeper relationships with our customers and providing relevant solutions both now and in the future.”

Rix said she wants Canada Life to become a customer and purpose led organisation, “working together to better serve advisers and their clients evolving needs”.

Commenting on Johnston’s appointment, Canada Life chief operating officer Caroline Dibbs says: “Katy is joining at such an exciting time for Canada Life and I’m so happy to welcome her to the team.

“Her knowledge and experience of leading large-scale, complex transformation projects means she is well placed to hit the ground running as we deliver against our strategic priorities.”

Johnston adds: “It’s a pleasure to join the team in this new role today showing the importance the business is placing on delivering at pace and to help take forward ambitious transformation plans, securing Canada Life’s position as a market leader and innovator.”
