Property owners are living in their homes much longer than they used to, and when they do sell, they're moving for a variety of reasons. The recent NAR Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers shines a light on a few key trends.
Seller trends
- The typical seller in 2024 was 63 years old, the highest age on record.
- The median number of years that a seller lived in their home was 10 years. Not long ago, the median was 6.
- And the number one reason people chose to sell? The desire to be closer to family and friends.
Other big motivations for moving included: the need to "upsize" into a larger home, the need to "downsize" into a smaller home, and the desire to live in a different neighborhood.
With people choosing to live in their homes longer, we're seeing a clear pattern emerge: many of our sellers need an extra level of support from our team. After a decade or more in the same home, the process of decluttering, staging, and making necessary repairs can feel overwhelming. And, many sellers need guidance with a buying plan that helps them successfully transition into their next home, whether they're moving closer to family, upsizing, downsizing, or exploring a new neighborhood.
At Mad City Dream Homes, this is our sweet spot. Offering personalized care and extra attention is what we do. Call us if this is the type of support that you need from your next realtor. We would love to help you.
