Robert Fontaine Gallery Palm Beach

The Robert Fontaine Gallery moved onto Worth Avenue in Palm Beach last month after being in the Miami area for 11 years. The Town of Palm Beach persists in attracting a growing flock of major art collectors. Changes in the art world, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, have influenced this migration.

The gallery owner, Robert Fontaine, said the decision to move to 256 Worth Avenue, Palm Beach was somewhat based on the inability to find a space in Miami at a reasonable price.  Fontaine's gallery was in Miami's Wynwood art district for 6 years before moving to Miami Beach in 2017.  Because of the gentrification, it has been difficult for art galleries to find space without being priced out.

Fontaine is happy that the Town of Palm Beach has managed to accommodate his gallery as well as a print shop that is separate from the gallery.  The print shop is intended at “beginner collectors” and allows people to buy art online. His clients include seasonal residents and those who are new in town as well as having recently purchased homes in the area.

Art has always been an important part of his Fontaine’s life. Born and raised on Captiva Island, he lived a few doors down from painter and graphic artist Robert Rauschenberg, who lived and worked on Captiva until his death in 2008.  Rauschenberg had a tremendous impact on Fontaine.  After Fontaine graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a fine arts major, he worked for various galleries.  He soon discovered he wanted was to open his own art space and is pleased to have opened a magnificent space in Palm Beach.
