If you still have left over Halloween candy from over the weekend, the Loggerhead Marinelife Center is once again hosting their autumn Wrapper Recycling Drive.
The Wrapper Recycling Drive is in its fifth year, and the program is meant to raise awareness of the amount of plastic waste that is used during the holiday season. To participate in the program is simple. Simple bring all your empty wrappers to either a drop off location or the Loggerhead Marinelife Center. The empty wrappers will then be sent to a New Jersey based recycling company that turns the recycled wrappers into school supplies and other goods.
The Wrapper Recycling Drive is currently ongoing and will run until Tuesday, November 10th. Last year, the program collected over 272,595 Halloween candy wrappers from more than 40 schools and community partners that participated in the drive.
This year, the school that collects the most wrappers will win the chance to name a sea turtle patient at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center. The winner will be announced on Friday, November 13th.
Drop-off Locations:
Students and the community can drop off empty wrappers on participating school campuses, the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Pine Jog Environmental Education Center, South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, Palm Beach County 4H, Florida Oceanographic Society, Zoo Miami Foundation, Lion Country Safari, and the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium.
