This year marks the 27th year that The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse will celebrate National Public Lands Day.

Usually, the event is only one day, but this year they are celebrating the holiday all month long by asking visitors to help pick up and remove trash from the 120-acre property. They are encouraging people to tag them in pictures with their trash on social media, and on September 26th from 8 am to 10 am, officials will be giving out free t-shirts in the north parking lot to those who show posted photos.

Officials can also reward participants with two hours of community service.

“We are encouraging social-distanced volunteering throughout the month of September to celebrate National Public Lands Day; “2020 marks the 27th year for the ONA to celebrate NPLD and we invite local individuals to participate, just remember to follow all CDC guidelines for social distancing and mask wearing,” Robert Swithers, the bureau's Southeastern States District manager, said in a statement.

The land bureau oversees the 120-acre natural area, which was established by a federal law passed in 2008. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum is managed by the Loxahatchee River Historical Society.
