Brokers working with United Wholesale Mortgage will have access to a new artificial intelligence platform akin to ChatGPT.

The search tool, ChatUWM, can give brokers information on guidelines, matrices and UWM's technology, said Jason Bressler, the firm's chief technology officer. The offering, available Thursday, was developed over four months in partnership with Microsoft, Google and OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.

"Brokers are going to want a lot more out of it, because they're going to want to start acting as if ChatUWM is a ChatGPT for them, and that's exactly what we're going to give them," said Bressler.

Queries will provide users with the full article or page from which information was drawn. The platform is the mortgage giant's first public-facing AI release, it said. It pools knowledge from UWM's internal library-like resource, The Source.

The technology is part of UWM's systems all built in-house, Bressler said. It was one of several announcements by the company at its UWM Live event Thursday at its headquarters in Pontiac, Michigan. The company also unveiled a partnership with the NBA and WNBA, and a new title insurance alternative which expands on its previously released program.

ChatUWM is the latest offering from a real estate player seeking to capitalize on the ubiquitous AI technology from OpenAI. Other mortgage firms have offered consumer-facing bots which offer prospective borrowers advice on loan products and application updates.

The massive lender and servicer claims it is the nation's top mortgage lender, and it topped total loan units Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data last year.
